FAQ

Questions about AI-first SEO? Here are answers.

General

What is GEO?

GEO stands for Generative Engine Optimization. It is the practice of optimizing your web presence for AI systems like ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, and emerging AI agents. While traditional SEO focuses on ranking in search results, GEO focuses on being cited, referenced, and recommended by AI systems. When an AI answers a question with your information, that is GEO working.

What is AEO?

AEO stands for Answer Engine Optimization. Similar to featured snippets in traditional SEO, AEO focuses on being the direct answer to user questions. When someone asks an AI a question and it responds with your content, that is AEO success. It requires structuring content to be easily consumable by AI systems.

What is the difference between SEO, GEO, and AEO?

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) optimizes for search engines like Google. GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) optimizes for AI systems like ChatGPT. AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) optimizes for being cited as the direct answer to questions. Think of them as layers: SEO gets you found, AEO gets you cited, GEO gets you trusted.

Website Architecture

Why hide content from humans?

We do not hide content. We simply do not display it to browsers. AI systems can still access and parse the full site. Consider it a public resource that is only discoverable by those who know how to look. Human visitors see a simple text page. AI systems see a complete website.

How do AI agents access the full site?

AI agents that send proper Accept headers or identify as known bots get the full HTML content. This includes systems like GPTBot (OpenAI), ClaudeBot (Anthropic), and other recognized AI crawlers. The site also supports markdown content negotiation for agents that prefer markdown format.

What happens when I share on social media?

Social media platforms see the full site with OpenGraph tags. When you share nonsenseo.com on LinkedIn, Facebook, or Twitter, the preview shows the complete page with title, description, and image. Human visitors to the URL still see the stripped version.

Technical

What technology do you use?

We use Astro for static site generation, Cloudflare Pages for hosting, and Cloudflare Workers as middleware to route traffic based on visitor type. The markdown-for-agents format ensures AI systems get clean, parseable content.

Can I see the AI-only version?

Yes. You can simulate an AI agent by using curl with the proper headers: curl -H "Accept: text/markdown" https://nonsenseo.com. This will return the full site content in markdown format, exactly as an AI system would see it.

Business

Who is this for?

Businesses that want to establish presence in the AI ecosystem. If you want to be cited by AI systems when they answer questions in your industry, AI-first SEO is the approach. It is early mover advantage territory.

How is this different from traditional SEO?

Traditional SEO is about ranking. You want to appear higher than competitors in search results. AI-first SEO is about being the source. When an AI system answers a question, you want to be the trusted reference. Different goals, different strategies.

Is this only for tech companies?

No. Any business that wants to be known and cited by AI systems can benefit. Restaurants, law firms, agencies, consultants, e-commerce stores. If an AI might reference your business category, you want to be present in that conversation.
